Christopher Hurtado is a self-taught entrepreneur with a passion for technology, languages, learning, and teaching. He has more than 22 years of experience in translation, foreign language instruction and cross-cultural training. He has taught English as a second language (ESL) as well as Spanish and Arabic for English speakers. He is coauthor of Vacation Spanish: A Survival Guide for Mexico, the Caribbean, Central & South America (including a Brazilian Portuguese chapter). He earned a BA in Middle East studies/Arabic with a second major in philosophy at Brigham Young University and is studying for an MA in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. His expected graduation date is May, 2012.

Since founding Linguistic Solutions in 1991, Hurtado has been using high tech/high touch methodologies to manage customer relationships, translation projects and a worldwide network of freelance translators and translation managers while serving a variety of international clients, including Fortune 500 companies and high-tech startups. Linguistic Solutions breaks down language and cultural barriers through translation, interpretation, foreign language instruction and cross-cultural training.

Hurtado was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He grew up in Venezuela, his father’s native country. He’s a childhood bilingual (English and Spanish) and also speaks Brazilian Portuguese, French and Arabic. He has lived in the United States, Venezuela, Jordan, and Syria. He has traveled extensively in the United States, Venezuela, Egypt, Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian Territories, and Syria and less extensively in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Canada. He is married to children’s book author Alysia Gonzalez. They have nine children and are active in their church and community.

Hurtado is a former member of the board of directors of the American Marketing Association Houston Chapter (AMA Houston); founding co-chair of the AMA Houston Hispanic Marketing Special Interest Group (SIG); a former member of the American Translators Association (ATA); former secretary and treasurer of the ATA Translation Company Division (TCD); a former member of ASTM International; a former member of the F15 Committee of ASTM International; a former Member of the  Wyle Laboratories Institutional Review Board, a former member of the Houston Interpreters and Translators Association (HITA); former president of the Houston Palm Users Group (HPUG);  a former member of the Houston Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee (HPBAC); and a former member of the Advisory Board of the Technology Entrepreneurs’ Exchange (TeXchange).
