Christopher Hurtado is a self-taught entrepreneur with a passion for technology, languages, learning, and teaching. He has more than 22 years of experience in translation, foreign language instruction and cross-cultural training. He has taught English as a second language (ESL) as well as Spanish and Arabic for English speakers. He is coauthor of Vacation Spanish: A Survival Guide for Mexico, the Caribbean, Central & South America (including a Brazilian Portuguese chapter). He is double majoring in Middle East Studies and Arabic and in philosophy at Brigham Young University. He Graduates in April of 2010.
Since founding Linguistic Solutions in 1991, Hurtado has been using high tech/high touch methodologies to manage customer relationships, translation projects and a worldwide network of freelance translators while serving a variety of international clients, including Fortune 500 companies and high-tech startups. Linguistic Solutions breaks down language and cultural barriers through translation, interpretation, foreign language instruction and cross-cultural training.
Hurtado was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He grew up in Venezuela, his father’s native country. He’s a childhood bilingual (English and Spanish) and also speaks Brazilian Portuguese, French and Arabic. He has lived in the United States, Venezuela and Jordan. He has traveled extensively in the United States, Venezuela, Egypt, Jordan, and Israel and less extensively in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Canada. He’s married to children’s book author Alysia Gonzalez. They have nine children and are active in their church and community.
Hurtado is a former Member of the Board of Directors of the American Marketing Association Houston Chapter (AMA Houston); Founding Co-chair of the AMA Houston Hispanic Marketing Special Interest Group (SIG); Member of the American Translators Association (ATA); Secretary and Treasurer of the ATA Translation Company Division (TCD); Member of ASTM International; Member of the F15 Committee of ASTM International; Member of the Wyle Laboratories Institutional Review Board, Member of the Houston Interpreters and Translators Association (HITA); President of the Houston Palm Users Group (HPUG); Member of the Houston Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee (HPBAC); Member of the Advisory Board of the Technology Entrepreneurs’ Exchange (TeXchange).
